The living room of a fraternity house is a very important area. This is the social center of the house, where guests and residents can mingle together. It is one of the areas of the house that makes the biggest impression on prospective pledges. The frat house living room is really the heart of the house. Therefore, it is important that this room looks its best, so it impresses guests and provides a comfortable space for visitors. The following is a guide to decorating the living room of a flat house.
The heart and focal point of the living room will most likely be the television. It is the object that people gather around. The television is the modern-day equivalent of the fireplace. Knowing this, equipping a frat house living room with the best possible television is the first key to decorating.
Make the television a big one. At the bare minimum, it should be 42 inches. It is preferable if the TV is 55 inches or more. Depending on the budget available, frats should purchase a plasma or 3D TV. The majority of the time the TV is used for sports or movies, and plasma is often preferable for viewing than an LCD. However, if the budget allows for it, a 3D television should be purchased. The second generation of 3D TVs allows viewers to use the cheap glasses from the movie theater, making them economically feasible.
Once the TV is purchased, furniture should be the next step. The living room should have lots of comfortable seating. Large wraparound couches are particularly nice. Whatever kind of furniture is installed, it should be something that wipes up easily. After all, spills are a way of life in a frat house, so the furniture should be made from a material that cleans up in a jiffy.
Neon signs are a stylish touch. Beer signs are always a good idea if it’s not a dry campus, or a custom-made neon sign that displays the house letters. Getting a custom sign made is surprisingly affordable, and it will make for a talking point in the living room.
Installing an aquarium is always a good idea. There are two ways to go. Either a huge, impressive tank can be installed, or a smaller, fun, novelty tank can be installed.
Decorating a fraternity house living room is a lot of fun, but it is important to do it with as little expense as possible, while still covering the necessities and a few extravagances. Paying for college is expensive, leaving college money a little tight for most students. Make sure to use discount coupons for big ticket items like the TV or furniture.
