If visiting major cities and cities isn't your notion of the ideal holiday in Australia, there is always the option being taken by an increasing number of folk, involving a driving holiday. This is an inexpensive and relaxed way to explore and experience the numerous local attractions that Australia has to offer. You can fly to your area of choice and then hire a car, FWD or campervan hire australia to explore the many and varied regional cities in the area.
One such place is Mount Molloy, in far north regional Queensland. You can drive there simply from Cairns in approximately an hour and a half. There are 2 ways of reaching Mount Molloy so the best value trip is to go up one way and come back through the other, making a full day trip with lunch at the Mount Molloy pub in the middle.
You should start out from Cairns and head north towards Port Douglas, along one of the most beautiful drives in the world and naturally, you must stop whenever you like on the way to take in all the beautiful spots. 1 or 2 kilometres before you reach Mossman, you want to turn left and head due west up the mountain, leaving cane fields behind while you drive thru the mountainous rainforest. At the very top is the dramatic little city of Mount Molloy, complete along with country pub.
Mount Molloy is a common old Australian country city “a miniscule one, complete with old world cottages as well as some more recent buildings. Lunch in the boozer is a total must do. It is an old historic boozer complete along with timber hewn, long tables and benches from which you can enjoy one of the biggest Aussie boozer meals of steak and chips you are ever certain to find.
The bar is usually well populated with country neighbors who are always ready to chat over a lager or 2 “(or 3). It's a characteristic, old-fashioned Aussie, country city experience, north Queensland style. When you're done after 2 hours, drive on to Mareeba and back down the range thru Kuranda to Cairns, after having a thoroughly pleasant day.
