What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is basically getting paid to promote other people’s products, both online and offline. Here, we will focus on affiliate online and how you can become an affiliate marketer. There are several ways you can find products to promote. One of the more popular places to find products is on ClickBank. Here you will find thousands of digital products(not physical products) to promote and it is really simple(and free) to sign up. Once you sign up, you can go into the Marketplace area and see which products you might be interested in promoting. Once you choose a product or products to promote, you will be assigned a unique affiliate link or “hoplink” as they are sometimes called, for each product. You will need to save this link(s) in some manner such as on Notepad, or write it down as ClickBank does not do this for you. When you start promoting your companies, you will include your hoplink and when someone clicks on it and purchases it, you get paid. Some companies will pay you even if the customer doesn’t purchase, but simply if they gain a lead, or if the person views their website. ClickBank is by no means the only place where you can find products to promote. There is also Click2Sell, PayDotCom, Commission Junction, Amazon.com, Ebay, and individual retailers such as Walmart and Best Buy through which you can become an affiliate.
Do Your Research Before Investing in a Program
There are countless programs out there claiming they can make you a millionaire overnight with little or no effort on your part. Obviously, stay away from these programs as they are scams or at the very least are greatly exaggerating the amount of income you can earn and the time needed to invest in the program. Certainly there are millionaires in the affiliate marketing industry, sometimes referred to as “super affiliates”, but they have become wealthy over time, with effort and knowledge of the industry. Other programs to be cautious about use the term “Data Entry” in their program’s title. Most of the time, the “data entry” you would be doing is actually promoting companies through classified ads, articles and blogs, which is actually affiliate marketing. If you want to do affiliate marketing, this is fine, but if you want to do traditional data entry, this is not for you. Yes, you are entering data, but not what they would have you believe. You should also be cautious about some of the so-called “one-click” (or however many clicks) software programs available. I’m not saying all of these software programs are scams, and in fact, some can really save you time with many aspects of affiliate marketing. But those that claim that all you have to do is make a few clicks with your mouse and tons of traffic will flow to your website or hop link aren’t telling you the whole story. There is no magic bullet, and no matter how automated a program may claim to be, some work on your part is going to be required.
How Do You Learn the Basics of Affiliate Marketing?
So finally, how do you find a good online marketing program? There are different types of training programs out there, and it is always a good idea to look at online reviews before purchasing any product. See what other people are saying, examine the company’s sales page and read the fine print! There are also some good books that have been written about affiliate and online marketing. Some programs assume you know something about affiliate marketing to begin with, and if you are a beginner, will leave you frustrated and more confused than when you started. I have found that some programs I have purchased will give you a good foundation in online marketing, but have little or no support for their members. It’s like once you purchase their program, they abandon you and never respond to your emails. Believe me, this has happened to me more than once! One program I have found (and used) that is very high-quality and contains valuable information for beginners is Kimberley Hoffman’s My Online Income System. It focuses on a 60-day action plan where she takes you step-by-step through the fundamentals of affiliate marketing. The members’ forum contained in the program is very helpful and can answer just about any question you might have on affiliate marketing. With this said, you must do some due diligence and find the program that is right for you. Affiliate marketing can be a very rewarding and lucrative business once you receive the right knowledge through the right training program.
