How To Cheaply Add Zest To Your Kitchen
When redesigning a kitchen and choosing new cabinets, you might have neglected to consider what hardware you’ll use. You mainly dream of restoring your kitchen with exciting new finishes that can give it the luster that it currently lacks. You’ll find that you have nearly limitless options when it comes to kitchen cabinet hardware. Millions of different choices are available for cabinet pulls, knobs, and handles. There are also various types of latches, drawer slides and catches. They can be crafted from fine brass, or high-quality stainless steel.
There’s no shortage of available styles, and each style can have many different finishes. They can now be powder coated in any color and finish. You’ll have to decide on a shape for these. Any shape you can think of is probably an option, from rectangles and squares to round and hexagonal designs!
The wide array in sizes of kitchen cabinetry means that you’ll have to be very careful if you’re just planning on refinishing. To ensure that your hardware fits, measure the holes carefully, and be sure to measure twice.
Materials for pulls vary, as do finishes, and you can even find some satin nickel pulls. These are actually nickel-plated zinc die cast metal. Metals can be sanded for a brushed look, then coated with laquer to be made more resistant. For kitchen cabinets, pulls and knobs made from antique pewter can be a great addition, especially when highlighted in oil-rubbed bronze.
By using a copper or bronze finish on die cast metal, you can inexpensively get the look and feel of much more expensive copper hinges! Some hardware uses other mediums in their hardware. This includes glass, ceramics, and other materials. Getting back to the copper hinges, you may choose to use actual copper hinges and other hardware.
Some make use of designer inspired plastic, oak and ceramics. Some kitchens look great with light-hearted handles and pulls designed to resemble everything from birds to growing trees. There are a myriad of other whimsical imagery also possible. Other designs are hand-distressed, giving them the old-fashioned look of classic Americana appeal. Enthusiasts of a modern aesthetic may choose hardware that uses incorporated granite.
Many people decide to use hardware that opens after being pushed in. Push plates can be very decorative, and may be a better choice than pulls or handles in this case.
